Mormons Gather: Richard G. Scott Addresses Thousands Gathered at Mormon April Conference 2010
Richard G. Scott addresses Mormons in Sunday Session of April 2010 LDS General Conference Meeting: The Atonement of Jesus Christ
Elder Scott, apostle of the Lord, spoke passionately and compassionately of the atonement of Jesus Christ. As His special witness, as Mormon apostle, living apostle–get that?!!–so easy to pass over lightly–again, as a living apostle, he encouraged us to study, ponder, and draw from the atonement. That knowledge, indicates Elder Scott, will influence every aspect of our lives.
Elder Scott mentioned 3 aspects of the Savior’s atonement that we can apply to our lives as we ponder them. They include:
- He felt the enormous weight of the responsibility on His shoulders.
- In His pure heart and mind, He had to feel the consequences of all sins, even the most depraved.
- He knew the vicious attacks of Satan and when pressed to His limit, He went on and finished the course on His own strength.
I’ve been pondering more of the atonement through personal study and listening to talks about the atonement. Recently, it occurred to me that bearing others’ infirmities as Christ did, in our own sphere, means bearing their spiritual infirmities while focusing on repenting of our own shortcomings.
He closed with a deep, sensitive expression of his personal love and adoration of the Savior.
Additional talks by Elder Scott: Doctrines of Mormonism are found in these talks
Mormon doctrines include the pre-mortal life, a restored Church of Jesus Christ on the earth, established priesthood authority in our day, temple worship, and ordinances endowing us with power to fill our missions and have eternal relationships and joy in this life and the next.
